Our Mission
Our Mission
Mental Health America of Greenville County (MHAGC) is a South Carolina-based, non-profit organization that works to positively impact the mental health of our local residents through advocacy, awareness, and service. MHAGC is committed to a just, humane, and healthy society in which all people are accorded respect, dignity, and the opportunity to achieve their full potential free from stigma and prejudice.
As part of our mission, MHAGC operates the 988 Lifeline Call center in the upstate of SC, a federally-funded, locally-managed mental health emergency program created as an expansion of the federal Suicide Emergency Call Number.
The 988 Lifeline’s main purpose is to create immediate hope and reassurance for callers who are experiencing a mental health crisis. We offer support, empathy, and compassion to those in need, and we empower them to seek safe and confidential care from trained mental health professionals.
The 988 Lifeline also offers direct assistance to the friends, family members, and loved ones of people in crisis. In addition to direct consultation, we provide numerous educational materials that destigmatize mental health issues, inform the public about available resources, and create opportunities to advocate for greater access to mental health care for all.
